To satisfy the requirements of an assignment for BUS 317 (31.7) New Media & Business at Brooklyn College, I have posted changes to a Wikipedia Article.
As mentioned in my welcome message on this blog, I have been involved in performing arts most of my life. In fact, my entire family is engaged in one branch or another of performing arts. My mother is a classical concert pianist and my father a classical concert violinist. My brother lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland as a tenor at the Zürich Opera House. My sister and I have both worked extensively together in theatre in New York and on tour (with The Living Theatre) through much of Western Europe and parts of Eastern Europe.
The Wikipedia article I have chosen to revise reflects my inbred passion for music. Given my background, I have always had a profound love for the Russian masters of composition. One of my greatest loves is the piano virtuoso, composer and conductor, Sergei Rachmaninoff.
While the existing article did a more-than-adequate job of painting the picture of a very complex, multi-talented man, I was surprised to find that there was no mention of one of the most significant friendships of his life, a man with whom he shared much common ground—Vladimir Horowitz, one of the most-celebrated piano virtuosi of the 20th Century.
I have added a new section to the article that outlines the parallels between these men, showing the significance of their lifelong friendship.
The article can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Rachmaninoff.
